Visitors to the Malton Food Lovers Festival 2011 can enjoy a walkabout banquet experience by following the Welcome To Yorkshire Taste Trail, a fun and delicious new addition to this year’s weekend celebration.
The tasty Taste Trail has been specially arranged to allow food lovers to explore the town and to sample some great food and drink at venues displaying the ‘Taste Trail Venue’ sign. Twenty of the town’s food retailers and eateries as well as non-food businesses such as art galleries, fashion outlets, florists and gift shops, will have different local speciality ‘tasting dishes’ for visitors to sample the local and house specialities.
Organisers have prepared a mouth-watering walkabout banquet including: Giant Yorkshire Puddings with Yorkshire Beef and wasabi sauce, Sloe Cocktails, Scrummy plum and marzipan muffins, Filo baskets with smoked local trout, watercress and ginger, Lavender Cupcakes with Ice Yorkshire Tea, Sausage Tart with onion marmalade, Yorkshires Scotch Quails Eggs, Yorkshire Parkin, Yorkshire Curd Tarts, Pecorino shortbreads with new season asparagus, Specialist cheese platters, Thai tasters, Yorkshire tapas, BBQ bites and chocolate treats.
To join in the fun, visitors simply need to purchase the special Taste Trail Vouchers from the Malton Tourist Information Centre and Museum or the Festival Information Point, both in the central Market Place or in the tasting venues themselves.
The Vouchers cost £2 each, are redeemable against one tasting dish and will be valid in every tasting venue. The vouchers will be accompanied by a Taste Trail Leaflet showing the location and ‘tasting dish’ of each tasting venue.
Also for the first time, The Festival has four celebrity Patrons supporting Malton’s celebration of Yorkshire’s finest food and drink. They are: food writer and columnist Tom Parker Bowles, legendary Yorkshire chef Brian Turner CBE, cookery ‘grande dame’ Rosemary Shrager and Yorkshire’s culinary ambassador, Chef Andrew Pern.
One of the main draws for the Festival are the two specially created Cookery Theatres which will showcase the assembled talents of television chef, Rosemary Shrager and three of the region’s Great British Menu competitors: Andrew Pern, chef/patron The Star Inn, Harome; Stephanie Moon, chef consultant Rudding Park Hotel, Harrogate and former Deliciouslyorkshire Champion and Tim Bilton, chef/patron The Butchers Arms, Hepworth. Over the two days, there will be a total of 22 cookery demonstrations featuring not only the above, but also Michelin starred James Mackenzie, Richard Allen, Dan Farrall, Robert Ramsden, Peter Neville, Sophie Legard, Rob Green, Prett Tejura, Giorgio Alessio, Clover Hutson, The Ramans and the iconic Bettys Cookery School.
The 2011 event will also feature up to 100 top food and drink producers, and street food stalls all highlighting regional specialities and local produce in Malton’s historic Market Place. There will also be an Army Field Kitchen and a Farming Skills exhibition area.
This year’s Beer Festival is extended to include Wine, with over 30 local beers, perrys and ciders to taste, tutored wine tastings, a soft drinks bar, an all day beer garden, hot food and live music, and open until 11pm on Saturday night.
