Malton - A Food Town

WHY FOOD? WHY MALTON?

A few years ago, ideas were floated for a plan to promote the town. As with all good ideas, it turned out the solution was right under our noses. Malton is fortunate to be surrounded by some of the most productive and varied farmland in the country. Our plan was to promote the town and its unique position, with many local food producers, so in 2009 we started the now famous MaltonFood Lovers Festival and the rest, as they say, is history!

Food Lovers Festival

Over the last four years, the Malton Food Lovers Festival has expanded rapidly. This annual food festival has grown into a two-day celebration of 'Yorkshire's Finest' with over 150 high-quality producer stalls, cookery theatres, cookery school marquee and supported by a number of celebrity patrons. Our Beer Festival is ever popular and we welcomed over 20,000 people to our pretty market town last year. With car parks and streets bulging at the seams, we saw how good food and cooking could do to promote Malton.
The dates for 2014's Malton Food Lovers Festival are: Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th May.

Regular indoor Food Lovers Market

With the success of the Festival, we were asked to put on a more regular event and hence in November 2011,we debuted our first Food Lovers Market. The event was housed in the newly-refurbished Milton Rooms and showcased only the highest quality produce local to Malton. With an amazing atmosphere, helped by the thousands who flocked to Malton on the day, the market proved an instant hit. The Malton Food Lovers Market is now held monthly.

Great Restaurants

Other exciting projects have helped boost the town particularly the opening the excellent restaurant "The New Malton" in the Market Place and of course James Martin's restaurant at The Talbot Hotel, which reopened in April 2012. James's restaurant takes bookings for lunch and dinner and it is a huge honour to have him back in his home town! James's restaurant has become THE place to eat in Malton. Talbot Hotel

The £4 million restoration of the Talbot Hotel has provided Malton with some high quality accommodation with a choice of 26 delightful rooms. The restaurant and bar in the Talbot Hotel are the ultimate place to taste all the superb local produce. And with North Yorkshire acting as a huge larder on the chef’s doorstep what could be better? Game from the North Yorkshire Moors, lobster and crab from the North Sea, rare breed cattle and pigs, local dairy, honey, cheese, perfect organic fruit and veg, baking galore and much, much more besides! Food Shops

There are more foodie plans on the horizon. In the meantime, come and visit this pretty market town that can still boast two butchers, two greengrocers, a couple of lovely deli's and a great fishmonger. We have more on the way so keep watching!
